Aria Roach

Raised in Vermont, Aria Roach graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Dance and Choreography with Honors from Virginia Commonwealth University in May 2016. During her time at VCU, Aria had the pleasure of performing in works by Autumn Waddell and Martha Curtis, as well as in several student creations. Aria also spent a semester in Israel, where she simultaneously attended the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) through the Dance Jerusalem program under the direction of Paul Bloom. She studied Ohad Naharin’s Gaga language and Batsheva Repertory from Aya Israeli and a collection of former Batsheva dancers. Aria also worked with Deganit Shemy, performing the premiere of her piece “Variations of Zira” at the Suzanne Dellal Centre in Tel Aviv. In 2015 Aria received a VCUarts Dean’s International Study Grant to attend the ImPulsTanz Festival in Vienna, Austria, where she studied the repertory of Última Vez and Rosas. Most recently, Aria volunteered for PALETTE (Promoting Art for Life Enrichment Through Transgenerational Engagement) in Motion, an interdisciplinary program bringing together students from the VCU School of Allied Health Professions and School of Pharmacy with senior volunteers to bridge generational gaps through movement arts. Her dance film, “Resonance,” has been screened at the 2016 Dance Shorts: College Film Festival at Arizona State University, as well as in the Richmond Dance Festival in Virginia. Aria has strengthened her training in summer intensives at the Rock School of Dance Education, Joffrey Ballet School, the Ailey School, and Complexions Contemporary Ballet. She is a Carpenter Foundation, VCU Provost, and Samuel N. Bemis Scholar.
