The Pagode (a type of Samba) movement evolved out of the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and became one of the most popular dance and musical art forms in Brazil. In this workshop participants will learn the history and progression of Pagode as an urban social movement while learning actual Pagode choreography. The workshop will start with a cohesive upbeat warm-up inspired by various Afro-Brazilian movements, participants will then learn the basics of traditional Samba, and will conclude with exploring actual popular Pagode choreography. ACROVINYASA takes yoga from Earth to Air! Part Vinyasa Flow, part Acroyoga, part Inversion Training... In this workshop we will Flow, Float and Fly! This practice combines traditional yoga postures with L-based acrobatic flying. The aerial portion revolves around one partner (the base) supporting the other (the flyer) in moving through the air in a series of yoga postures. The necessary component for students learning the practice for the first time is the role of the spotter, who makes sure both base and flyer remain safe and properly aligned. Acrovinyasa brings a playful approach to our traditional yoga practice, feeling more like a dance with gravity than an intense physical practice!

Nicole teaches a somatically-informed vinyasa flow yoga class which focuses on building strength, stability, and flexibility. She draws on her experience as a dancer/somatic movement practitioner to develop classes which increase anatomical awareness of the physical body through movement and breath. Sequences are designed to weave postures gracefully together in an anatomically sound and intuitively easeful manner, subtly leading the practitioner to employ movement as a way to heal, restore, and express one’s inner landscape.

A form of dance in which it is easy to depict the connection between our past and our present. House is a dance form and music genre that has to this day held great respect for anything Afro Diasporic in nature, from its beat, rhythms and grooves. House dance is the closest to the movement I envision to be more of a correlation to the African culture. The major source in house dance movement steams directly from the music and the elements within the music such as jazz, African, Latin, soul, R&B, funk, hip hop, etc. The other source is the people, the individuals and their characteristics, ethnicities, origin, etc. You make it you.

In house dancing, there is an emphasis on the subtle rhythms and riffs of the music, and the footwork follows them closely. It is often improvised and emphasizes fast and complex foot-oriented steps combined with fluid movements in the torso.

House is a feeling and a culture.
