Brattleboro, VT.
Percussionist and Gong Specialist Stephan Brandstatter’s musical journey has been one filled with years of varied drumming & percussive performances. He has worked with singer songwriters, blues guitarists, new music ensembles, rock bands, jazz ensembles, mimes, modern & classical dancers & in theatre. He's recorded with Tom Namaya, Bill Shontz, Leslee Rios, Don Bikoff & collaborated with Anitra Shore from the London School of Ballet to name just a few. Added to his conventional performances he has for the past 20 years pursued his passion of Sound Healing exploring the benefits and therapeutic qualities of vibrational resonating instruments such as gongs, chimes, bells, bowls, cymbals, hand drums and more. He’s been invited numerous times to commemorate Brattleboro’s Annual Aids Awareness Day, dedicate ground for The Brattleboro Hospice, officiated at weddings, assisted meditation groups, offered healing sessions to the sick and elderly & create soundscapes for dancers. His most recent collaboration is with Emily Wiadro, a Certified Yoga practitioner, offering restorative yoga coupled with sound healing. In 2015 he co-founded VIBRANT ENSEMBLE with ethnomusicologist Dr. Dennis Waring and is also working on his recording project “Spirit, Energy & Power of the Gong” for release in 2017. It’s his understanding, belief & firm commitment that the Power of the Gong can help heal people and our planet. He is honored to be collaborating in this festival with the extraordinarily talented dancer/choreographer Millie Heckler & will be debuting improvised soundscapes choreographed especially for the festival.
