Embrace the power of artistic connections in social change movements throughout history. Students will learn dance repertory that incorporates themes of social justice, and later create their own! Repertory by Nikki Manx Dance Project includes "Mandela," the historical legacy of the South African prisoner gone president, "No One Should Go Hungry," an interactive dance set to an audio-documentary created with homeless citizens, and "Same Love," which supports marriage equality. Students will explore how to incorporate various social issues in expressive art forms such as dance, spoken word and multimedia. Students will contribute to the cultivation of their own unique call to action. The company’s thought-provoking signature style of a gestural vocabulary inspires students’ creation of cause-driven movement projects.
