Ballet with a modern flare, emphasizing efficient mechanics from a body-mind perspective, neo-classical lines, and non-traditional use of the torso and floor. We will start on the floor with breathing and anatomical alignment exercises derived from various somatic practices. The barre consists of longer combinations designed to increase blood flow and to warm the body from the feet up. Barre exercises are directly related to the center combinations and incorporate parallel and allongé lines as well as upper body articulations. Center and traveling exercises build upon the barre material. Grand allegro will be examined from a traditional perspective and then presented as a modified contemporary sequence, giving the students choices for their interpretation.
